Project 1: Development and Experimental Characterization of Antennas for Telemetry and Radionavigation for Small Satellite Launch Vehicles

Abstract:
This project proposes the development of antennas for the VS-50 suborbital rocket and the VLM-1 microsatellite launch vehicle, in line with the strategic objectives of the National Space Activities Program 2022-2031 (PNAE 2022-2031). Antennas for receiving data from global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and for transmitting telemetry data to a ground station will be designed and experimentally characterized. Due to the high cost and dimensions of the VS-50 and VLM-1 vehicles, experimental characterization will be performed using frequency scaling, simultaneously reducing the dimensions of the rockets by the same scale factor. This procedure has already been used in the aeronautical industry to optimize antenna installation and will now be tested for space vehicles. Furthermore, this technique allows for the characterization of the same electromagnetic properties as for the full-scale model, with the advantage of enabling measurements to be performed in a more controlled environment and at significantly reduced costs. Part of the infrastructure necessary for experimental validation is already available at the Electromagnetism, Microwaves and Antennas Laboratory (LEMA) of the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA). The remaining equipment will need to be acquired if this proposal receives funding from CNPq.
